Why spectroscopy?

Born in Nanjing, China in 2002, I moved to Shanghai, China at age three, where I grew up. I was introduced to chemistry in the 3rd year of junior high. As the only matter science I encountered before university, I was deeply fascinated by it, and my interest in the subject eventually grew into a passion.

From a young age, I was always exploring different hobbies beyond my studies. I developed a particular fondness for building toys, especially LEGOs. A trip to Japan in 2015 introduced me to Gundam, and building plastic Gundam models has since become one of my greatest passions. In 2018, I started playing CS:GO, accumulating over 2,800 hours of gameplay to date. To this day, model building, CS, and studying chemistry remain three of the longest-standing passions in my life.

My academic journey began in 2020 when I enrolled in materials science at Tokyo University of Science. It was there that I realized my true passion was for matter science as a whole, rather than just chemistry. During my undergraduate studies, influenced by Prof. Kotsugi, I began to self-study computational physics and machine learning. In my fourth year, I was introduced to core-loss spectroscopy and was immediately captivated. I quickly learned that while XANES/ELNES spectra are often presented as 2D data, they contain a wealth of information. This fascination has driven my research since 2024, focusing on projects related to spectroscopy.

In April 2025, I began a new chapter of my academic career at the University of Tokyo, under the guidance of my supervisor Prof. Mizoguchi. In September, I was accepted into the MERIT-WINGS program, formally starting the integrated Master's and Ph.D. program in matter science at the university.  As a fellow, I look forward to participating in more research projects.
